First Place
Hadassah Magazine, New York, NY
"Israel's Political Gender Revolution" by Allison Kaplan Sommer
Comments: A deep dive into an issue that represents a sea of change in Israeli politics. Because both men and women serve in the army, Israel's reputation has it that there's little gap between genders. This story shows that may not be quite as true as it might seem, but also that change comes. The package's structure -- a main story and mini-profiles of women with different political points of view -- works well. A perfect Hadassah story, but I only wish the pieces could be distributed more widely.

Second Place
The Forward Association, Inc., New York, NY
"Whatever Became of the Children of Jerusalem?" by Naomi Zeveloff
Comments: Journalists have the attention span of fleas and often don't revisit a topic once that isn't a continuing story. I'm convinced, though, that audiences often wonder "whatever became of..." This pieces answers that question in a way that goes beyond a mere update to provide the context of changing times.
